Faheem Amburi

Faheem Amburi named Mohd Abdul Aziz (b. 1881, d. 1943 was born at Ambur. He was a poet of jolly nature and temperament. Urdu language was not his mother tongue. However, he chose this language to express his thoughts and feelings. He was also a powerful orator gaining the title ‘Fasihul Lisan’ because of his command over literary devices and art of oratory and poetic craft. He had presided over a number of great Mushairas, which were organized in the State of Tamil Nadu, India. He was associated with Hazrath Khaja Ishrath Lukhnowi as a student and then turned to prominent poet, Maulana Natiq Gulavati, originally hailing from a town Gulavati in Bulandshahr District of UP, India

The short collection of poems composed by Faheem Amburi, ‘Gulzar-e-Faheem’ was published in 1960. We find traces of sound and solid traditions and values in his poesy. Faheem Amburi’s poetry is free from artificiality and embellished with originality. He paid particular attention to nuisances of the language. He recited not sang his poetry compositions in poetry meets. His recitation of poems had magical effects over the audience. We can see his mercurial temperament and tendencies in the poems of Faheem Amburi. He met with a tragic accident and succumbed to it in 1943.

One lively couplet of this poet from Tamil Nadu, South India is as under:

मदरासियों में निकले उर्दू ज़ुबान वाले

अब क्या करेंगे दावा हिन्दुस्तान वाले

There are Urdu speakers among Chennai Dwellers as well,

Now, persons from the North cannot claim solely over the language.

This small article one the poet, Faheem Amburi is based on the book of Aleem Saba Navedi, Baba-e-Urdu of Tamil Nadu, namely ‘History of Urdu Literature in Tamil Nadu’ translated from Urdu to English by his daughter Dr Javeda Habib amongst others, who herself has traded the path of her father, authoring significant books on the Urdu Literary scenario in the South.
