Ateeya Parveen Bilgrami

Ateeya Parveen Bilgrami is a prolific fiction writer of Urdu. In preface to her short story collection ‘Ye Mera Zarf Dekh’, she writes:

“Why do I write, it is a bit difficult to explain. My heart and pen motivate me to write. A motivation stirs within me, which is the cause of my creativity.”

Ateeya Parveen Bilgrami has served Urdu literature greatly for a long time. She writes:

“In my thought, I have served Urdu literature a lot. I am writing for a long time.

I had written my first short story at the age of 13 years. In that atmosphere, environment and restrictions where writing of girls is looked down so I was severely taunted, however, the desires kept on arising that I should write.

I hail from the town of Bilgram in District Hardoi. This is a historical and literary town (Not is, but was). I opened my eyes in its environment.  I grew up here. Literature enamored me and I fell in love with pen. Anyway, my father (May God bless him with paradise!) witnessing my increasing craze permitted me to be a warrior of a pen.”

Ateeya Parveen Bilgrami adds:

I wrote numerous short stories based on my surroundings and diverse characters. My characters are not abnormal. They are real and solid characters walking on the earth not flying in the sky.

I insist on the respect and importance of woman. Woman is the best creation of the universe. Indeed, some women fall from this sublime position. I try lifting such women and inculcating good feminine qualities inside them. Each short story of mine aims at some purposes.
