EIDGAH SHAMSI OF BUDAUN

Eidgah Shamsi

Eidgah Shamsi of Budaun is located about one mile away in the west from the city. This is the same building that was built by Sultan Shamsuddin Iltutmish in 1095 CE during his administration. This has 300 ft long wall and one pulpit is erected to recite the sermon. There is the historical wall to the south of the pulpit, on which the verses of the Holy Quran are inscribed.  The text inscribed on the bricks on the upper part of the wall has got erased due to renovation. Blue bricks on the margins of the wall have collapsed and some others are still in sight. Enormous columns lying near the stone platform in fallen state are moaning the past glory of Muslims. Now there is the tomb of Hazrat Shah Vilayat (R) behind this wall.  One gate is carved out from ancient time in this wall. Eid prayer is performed in the southern part of the platform. There was a water tank in the part of the northern wall in the past, whose signs have lost due to changes in time and place. Now there is a ditch, which gets fully filled up in rainy season.
