A Debate Nadvi vs. Qasmi is an eternal debate among Bhartiya Madrasa scholars and being a proud Nadvi how I can distance myself from the third world war raging among some prominent Nadviyan and Qasimiyan. Though still I have to realize what the connection between Mufti Shamail Nadvi and Hazrat Yasir Nadeem al-Wajdi exists, some debating posts are being seen on the horizon of the social media regarding him and some others.
I do believe Nadviyat is more relevant than Qasmiyat in view of the internal and external, national and international circumstances as Nadviyat incorporates Qasmiyat, Tablighiyat, Wahabiyat, Barelviyat and other isms that came into existence after many centuries since the sun of Islam rose on the horizon of the planet earth. On the other hand, Qasmiyat can be perceived as a narrow tunnel starting from a town in the western UP and that terminates at two points in the national capital.
I have never been interested in the metaphysical debates and discussions neither in my student life and nor during learning phase after graduating from the most prestigious Islamic University on the subcontinent, Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema Lucknow. I would like here to emphasize that the very nomenclature of Nadwatul Ulema signifies to its broader relevancy than the relevancy of Qasmiyat that means following Maulana Qasmi Nanotvi and his teachers and disciples. On the contrary, Nadwatul Ulema means the parliament of the scientists, i.e. the assembly of the persons who have wisdom, knowledge, expertise and ideology to lead the Muslim Ummah.
And a couplet composed by Akbar Allahabadi:
मज़हबी बहस मैं ने की ही नहीं,
फालतू अक्ल मुझ में थी ही नहीं.
Was my personal choice and I did not get engaged in the debate Nadvi vs. Qasmi. However, debate and discussion, dialogue and negotiation are necessary intellectual occupation bridging the gap among communities that adhere to diverse faith systems as it is evident that a Nadvi named Mufti Shamail, who might have been inspired by the debate module of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema, which constitutes some of salient features being pressed in my Madar-e-Ilmi, became an icon of Qasmiyan.
Therefore, the books on philosophy and logic and how Aristotelian logic taught in Dars-e-Nizami has hampered the progress of research and scholarship in the Islamic seminaries rather than any advancement in the concerned fields would be my regular feature articles on our portal www.muslimsofindia.com.
