Urs-e-Aslami

Urse Aslami is the annual religious and spiritual function and other relevant programs that are held on the occasion of the death anniversary of Huzur Sher-e-Bihar, Mufti Muhammad Aslam Razvi (R), the founder of a prestigious Islamic seminary namely Jamia Qadria Maqsoodpur, Aurai District Muzaffarpur.

The Persian phrase of Urs-e-Salami consists of the word **عرس** from the Arabic triliteral root **ع-ر-س** (*‘-r-s*), which is associated with concepts of celebration, gathering, or festivity, particularly in the context of marriage or communal joy. In modern standard Arabic and most dialects, ‘urs’ refers to a “wedding” or “marriage ceremony”. It denotes the celebratory event where family and friends gather to mark the union of a couple. The term encapsulates the joyous, communal, and often lavish nature of such occasions in Arab culture. In classical Arabic poetry, ‘urs’ might be used metaphorically to describe a union or a joyous gathering beyond literal weddings. The word is used in both formal and colloquial contexts. There is a word derived from this root (عريس) – and (عروسة) – Bride. The verb ‘arasa’ (عرس) can mean “to celebrate a wedding” or “to marry” in certain contexts. In some poetic or mystical contexts (e.g., Sufi literature), urs may symbolize a spiritual union, such as the soul’s connection with the divine, reflecting the idea of joyous unity. The term has influenced related languages and cultures. For example, in Urdu and Persian urs can refer to both weddings and, in some cases, the commemoration of a Sufi saint’s death anniversary (seen as a “union” with God) and another word of this phrase is Aslami i.e. related to Huzur Sher-e-Bihar Mufti Muhammad Aslam Razvi (R) so Urse Aslami is religious function that is performed every year on the date when the founder of Jamia Qadria Maqsoodpur left this heavenly abode and got united with the Almighty Allah (ST).
