Malmal is one of the large villages of Bihar, where Muslims have a history and culture. Situated 17 km from its district headquarter, Madhubani, it has two Panchayat – North and South. There is a prestigious Islamic seminary Chashma-e-Faiz affiliated to Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema Lucknow.
History
It is said that Malmal is an old settlement established during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar by Malmali Khan. Malmali Khan was a known Translator in the Court of Akbar. With the passage of time it came under Raj Darbhanga.
Education
Malmal has also been famous for its robust education, where a number of Madrasas and schools are located. Madrasa Chashma-e-Faiz is an old and prominent Islamic seminary affiliated to Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema. It had been established during 1815-1820 by Abdul Bari Machhli Shahri. Talim-ul-Quran is another old and important seat of learning established in 1900 by Amanat Ali in the northern part of the town. Among several government and private modern educational institutions, Safa Girl’s High School is worth mentioning. It provides education to the girl student upto 10th grade, while boys can read here only upto 5th Grade.
Economy
The living standard of Malmal is that of the northern Bihar. Many of its inhabitants are educated and work in global corporations. A number of people here are engaged in large and medium size businesses so the standard of housing and other amenities are better than in nearby villages. Malmal has good road connectivity, electricity and branded shops.
Culture
Cultural events such as poetry symposium, baitbazi, quizzes, panel discussions, theatre performances, etc are common here.
Sport facilities in Malmal are not very good. However, cricket, badminton, carom boards, swimming, marathon and Kabaddi are popular pastimes. One organization namely Tanzeem Islah-e-Moashra has been established in 1984, which is engaged in cultural and reformative activities.
