Masoom Muradabadi

Masoom Muradabadi is a senior Urdu journalist and author.  He is the editor of the Urdu news portal ‘Jadeed Khabar’ and the fortnightly newspaper ‘Khabardar’. He has worked in the field of Urdu journalism for the past 35 years. Apart from writing weekly columns in major newspapers of the nation, his articles too, are a regular feature in Urdu literary journals like “Aaj Kal“, “Aiwan-e-Urdu“, “Naya Daur” and “Urdu Dunya“. He is the recipient of many awards for his journalistic services.

He has authored a number of books including four works on journalism. His interviews of the distinguished poets such as Ali Sardar Jafri, Akhtarul Iman, Ahmad Faraz, Iftikhar Arif, Habib Jalib, Bashir Badr, Bekal Utsahi, Malikzada Manzoor Ahmed, Bheeshm Sahni, Javed Akhtar and others have been published with the title of ‘Bil-Mushaafa’. As a journalist, he has visited the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Libya. He is also the Secretary of the All India Urdu Editors Conference and a member of the Parliament’s Media Advisory Committee.

His book ‘Urdu Journalism and First War of Independence, 1857’ (Urdu Sihafat Aur Jang-e-Azadi 1857) has been published in 2008 by Khabardar Publications, New Delhi. Masoom Moradabadi deals with the background and context of the war of independence, evolution of Urdu journalism, Delhi Urdu Akhbar, martyrdom of Maulvi Baqar in addition to other newspapers Sadiqul Akhbar, Pyam-e-Azadi, Sirajul Akhbar, Koh-e-Noor, Tilasm Lakhnau, Sahre Samri, Risala Baghawat-e-Hind, Umdatul Akhbar, Chashmai Faiz and others.

Another book of Masoom Muradabadi is on the evolution of Urdu journalism (Urdu Sihafat ka Irteqa). Kya Huwe Who Log and Javed Habib are other books to his credit. Dozens of prominent personalities of India such as Mahatma Gandhi, Abul Kalam Azad, Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Subhash Chandra Bose and others have been included in this valuable book.
