Jahangirabad of Shefta indicates to two entities,  Jahangirabad a town in the District of Bulandshahr and Shefta, nom de plume of Mustafa Khan Shefta,  a Nawab, who is an integral part of the city and the regions around it.

Jahangirabad is named after the Mughal Emperor, Jahangir. He had stayed here for a couple of days. There is a beautiful Jahangirabad Fort right in the center of the town. Jahangirabad is about 19 km away from another important town Anupshahr, founded at the same time. Anupshahr situated on the bank of the holy river Ganges is a picnic spot and religious site for Hindus.  Its district Headquarters Bulandshahr is approximately 26 km from this historical town. It is a part of National Capital Region. Shefta, a prominent Nawab and contemporary poet of Ghalib was the ruler of Jahangirabad.

Mustafa Khan Shefta belonging to the landowning family of Indian Bangash Pathan, whose kinsmen included the Nawabs of Farrukhabad and the freedom fighter Walidad Khan of Barabasti was born in 1809 in his house of Delhi. He was married in the family of general Ismail Beg Hamadani, who was his father in law. His estates were in Palwal of Gurugram and Jahangirabad of Meerut.  A member of Delhi Literary Circle of Ghalib, Zauq and Momin, he was poet, critic and bosom friend of Ghalib helping him in need as when he was in prison. His home at Delhi was a center of literary activities. Shefta of Jahangirabad breathed his last at his house in Kucha Chellan of Old Delhi and he was buried in his family graveyard at Hazrat Nizamuddin. His books such as ‘Gulshan-e-Bekhaar’ can be read on Rekhta.

Jahangirabad of Shefta has two government schools and a government hospital. Most people of Jahangirabad are engaged in their business as it has a huge 2 km long market. The nearby college to Jahangirabad is RDPD GIRLS PG College and RDPD Institute of higher education. Jahangirabad has the second largest naveen mandi of rice and wheat of Uttar Pradesh. Jahangirabad comes under Anoopshahr legislative constituency. (Hamid Siddiqui)
